Role overview
We are hiring a Senior PL/SQL & ETL Developer to design, build and tune high-volume Oracle data pipelines. You will own complex PL/SQL code, ETL workflows and data warehouse structures that feed business-critical and regulatory reports.
The role suits a hands-on engineer who writes performant, well-tested database code and can diagnose production issues end to end. You will work closely with business analysts, data architects and QA, and mentor junior developers.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain PL/SQL packages, stored procedures, functions and triggers for transactional and analytical workloads.
- Build and enhance ETL workflows in Informatica PowerCenter, Talend or Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) to extract, transform and load data from multiple source systems.
- Design multi-tier staging layers (landing, staging, curated) with robust data validation, reconciliation and reject-handling rules.
- Implement dimensional models (star and snowflake schemas) and Slowly Changing Dimensions (Type 1, 2 and 3).
- Load bulk and file-based data using SQL*Loader, External Tables and Oracle Data Pump (expdp/impdp).
- Tune slow SQL and PL/SQL using Explain Plans, SQL Trace and TKPROF; apply partitioning, indexing, materialized views and hints where justified.
- Process large data volumes efficiently with BULK COLLECT, FORALL and PL/SQL collections.
- Build and maintain a centralized error-logging and exception-handling framework across database code.
- Automate file handling, loads and housekeeping with Unix/Linux shell scripts (Bash/Korn).
- Schedule and monitor batch jobs in Control-M, Autosys or DBMS_SCHEDULER, and resolve job failures within agreed SLAs.
- Manage code in Git, GitLab or Bitbucket, follow branching and code-review standards, and support release deployments.
- Provide L2/L3 production support, perform root-cause analysis and document fixes.
- Prepare technical design documents, mapping specifications and unit test cases.
- Review code and mentor junior developers on PL/SQL and ETL best practices.
Required technical skills
Core PL/SQL development
- Advanced database objects: packages, stored procedures, functions and database triggers.
- Performance collections: BULK COLLECT, FORALL, nested tables and associative arrays.
- Dynamic SQL: EXECUTE IMMEDIATE and the DBMS_SQL package.
- Error management: custom exception handling and centralized error-logging frameworks.
ETL & data warehousing
- Enterprise ETL tools: Informatica PowerCenter, Talend or Oracle Data Integrator (ODI).
- Data architecture: star schema, snowflake schema and Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD Type 1/2/3).
- Data ingestion: SQL*Loader, External Tables and Oracle Data Pump (expdp/impdp).
- Data integrity: multi-tier staging design and complex data validation rules.
Performance tuning & optimization
- Diagnostic tools: Explain Plans, TKPROF and SQL Trace analysis.
- Database partitioning: range, list, hash and composite partitioning strategies.
- Index optimization: B-Tree, Bitmap, function-based and partitioned indexes.
- Execution tuning: materialized views (with query rewrite) and optimizer hints.
Automation & ecosystem
- OS scripting: Unix/Linux shell scripting (Bash/Korn) for automation and file handling.
- Job orchestration: Control-M, Autosys or Oracle DBMS_SCHEDULER.
- Development tools: TOAD for Oracle, PL/SQL Developer or SQL Developer.
- Code management: Git, GitLab or Bitbucket.
Qualifications & experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or a related field (B.E./B.Tech/MCA/M.Sc.).
- 6+ years of hands-on Oracle PL/SQL development on Oracle 12c, 19c or later.
- 3+ years building production ETL pipelines on at least one enterprise ETL tool.
- Proven delivery on data warehouse or reporting projects handling multi-million-row daily loads.
- Track record of measurable SQL/PL/SQL performance improvements in production.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams with formal SDLC, code review and release processes.
Good to have
- Banking or financial-services domain experience, especially regulatory reporting (e.g. RBI or SARB returns), risk or finance data marts.
- Exposure to data quality, data lineage and audit-trail requirements in regulated environments.
- Oracle certification (Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate, Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional).
- Familiarity with CI/CD for database code (Liquibase, Flyway or Jenkins pipelines).
- Working knowledge of Python for data processing or automation.
- Exposure to cloud data platforms (OCI, AWS or Azure) or Oracle Autonomous Database.
Soft skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to root-cause analysis.
- Clear written and verbal communication with business, QA and infrastructure teams.
- Ownership of deliverables, including timelines, quality and production stability.
- Ability to work under tight reporting deadlines and handle on-call support when needed.
- Willingness to mentor team members and share knowledge through code reviews and documentation.
